There is nothing more frustrating than when you get to the final part of the three stages of restoring your convertible hood, and then it starts to rain just as you are applying the Ultra Proofer! This can leave customers feeling very concerned that they may have to start the whole process again, but don’t worry, as it really isn’t too difficult to rectify.

If you are worried about how much of the Ultra Proofer was washed out, just remember that the amount washed out will depend on the amount of rain that fell and how much the Ultra Proofer had dried before the pesky rain started. Ultra Proofer is a water based product,  so the rainfall will have diluted its capabilities.  Therefore the best thing to do is simply apply another coat to your soft top when it’s dry; this will top up/replace the protection that was washed away by the rain.

On the other hand, and definitely to more annoyance, if the surface of your soft top now looks water marked/patchy, you will need to clean the soft top with Fabric Soft Top Cleaner before starting to apply further Ultra Proofer; this may mean that a further two applications are needed to fully protect the fabric.

Clean your soft top properly following these instructions:

Mist spray the top and then paint on Fabric Soft Top Cleaner leave the solution to process for approximately one hour, the optimum time for the active ingredients to work. Using hand hot water the surface should then be scrubbed with a bristle brush, being careful around stitched areas. It is essential to use hand hot water. Finish by rinsing off with water. Repeat the whole process as necessary but be careful not to remove Reviver if you have applied that too!

You can always test to see for yourself if the Ultra Proofer is working properly! Once the top is dry, simulate a shower of rain by sprinkling droplets of water on the top. If it beads, then you know the proofer is working, but if not, and the water is able to absorb into the material, then you need to apply more coats until it is unable to penetrate the material.

The moral of this story is to be sure rain isn’t imminent when you begin using any of the Renovo products… not easy I know especially when you live in the UK!
